Anxiety disorders FAQs
Some of this knowledge is of course personal to my own experiences, but a lot of it came from other sufferers, and also from those who operate in the field and who either practice or write about the subject, with the following article being a distillation of all those sources.
It is estimated that 1 in 4 people will suffer from this horrible ailment at some time during their life, and yet it still remains almost an unhidden disease, with even the most intelligent of us not sure where we should be going, or to whom we should be talking, so as to find a cure.
My aim in putting together a very easy to follow FAQ approach to anxiety issues, was that it would be of help and benefit to people.

Answer. In a word, no. The symptoms of anxiety disorders can indeed be awful, making people feel as though they are going to die. However, they are the result of our natural “fight or flight” bodily triggers being activated, and however bad they make you feel at the time, they are not life-threatening on their own.
Question. And how exactly are anxiety disorders caused?.
Answer. There are a lot of factors, some of which will combine over time to bring about the disorder. It is not something which suddenly happens to you, rather the ailment evolves as these factors work together to bring on an attack. These factors come under the following general headings,. Genetics, our biological makeup i.e. how we react to stress, our personal thought patterns, our childhood environment, and of course our lifestyle issues such as our sleep patterns, our diet, our exercise regime and work and family related issues.

Answer. Absolutely, with the best treatments helping sufferers not just with alleviating the physical symptoms, but also controlling their thoughts and getting to the root cause of the anxiety and managing that. This latter point i.e. getting to the root cause, is the principle pathway to a lasting cure.
Question. OK, so can prescriptive medication not then cure the disorder?.
Answer. Medication will of course help the sufferer to handle the awful symptoms, and get their life on some sort of an even keel again. However, to repeat, they can only treat these symptoms, they can do nothing about unearthing and getting rid of the root cause of the disorder. To do this you need to learn simple skills and techniques and put in place probable lifestyle changes which will enable you to get rid of the disorder permanently.
Question. And is the disorder able to be eradicated completely, with a lasting cure?.
Answer. In a word, yes. Over time, with effort on one’s part, and the adoption of the lifestyle changes touched on above, complete recovery is indeed possible.
These skills and techniques are not difficult to learn, they simply need to be applied diligently. With the right will power and application, this disease can be beaten by anyone.
Prescriptive drugs are but a part of what can help. However, as they address purely the physical symptoms, it is the root cause which needs addressing, and that is down to the individual.
I made a big mistake in not seeking help, and not even talking to my family. Do not follow this same path. Go and seek help, it is out there. A permanent cure is there for anyone to put into place, it is all down to the individual and their own determination to effect a cure.
Remember, you CAN cure this. You WILL beat this. And you will do it with the right sort of help and assistance.
