For several years, the thought of tinnitus typically was tied in a ringing noise in the ears. The high-pitched ringing is a symptom of this condition, but it is crucial to be aware of the whole story. Based on US government statistics, more or less 12% of males roughly from the mid 60s to mid 70s in age are affected with tinnitus. Those with Caucasian origin seem to be more apt to develop tinnitus than other ethnic groups. Many instances of this ear condition are not serious and can be disregarded. Also, those who discover they have the condition may only be temporarily affected as it will disappear. Then there are some who have such severe interference that they require surgery.
