Believe in Yourself and God Will Meet Your Needs

I just celebrated my 50th birthday, and as I look back over my life the one thing that is most recognizable is that God has been faithful throughout my whole life. Throughout all of the places I have been and various situations, God has been there. When I was just eight years old I knew that I needed a Savior and I turned my life over to God.

Two years later I felt God speaking to my heart and saying, “Ann, I want you to be a missionary.” I did not know what that was really, except that a missionary was someone who told others about Jesus. And at the age of ten I gave my life to Jesus.

As I grew up, I went back and forth during my teenage years about where I wanted to go or how I would serve. Through it all I knew that God was in control of my life and had called me to serve Him. When it was time to go off to college I decided to major in elementary education because I felt it would help me to prepare for missions work in another country.

When I went to college I met a man and fell in love. We both knew that we would be serving in missions after we were married, and we wound up in Africa. Those days were full of adventure and the unknown, which was exciting for us. But it wasn’t always positive or fun, things were quite difficult at times.

During those years we were challenged with the separation from our families and the isolation of where we were living. We often doubted that we would have the basic necessities in those days, but God always found a way to supply our needs. Even though it seemed unlikely or even impossible to us, God would show us His faithfulness each time.

From there it was back to the States, and then on to France for missionary service, where our son was born. God was faithful over and over and over again with strength, with energy, and with finances. Year after year, God has been faithful.

God brought us back to the States, and we have been in Hanover over fifteen years. And in those fifteen years, God has been just as faithful on this side of the ocean as He was on the other side. He is good, my friend. He meets every need.

I think of the song that says, “Great is Thy faithfulness, O God, my Father. There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.” So as I celebrated this birthday, I can look back and say, “Great is Thy faithfulness!
