Busy Moms Getting More Thigs Done With Positive Thinking
One attitude able to be developed by all busy mothers is positive thinking. We’re not talking about just getting through today, but to make the endeavour productive and pleasurable at the same time. It has been long known to psychologists and physiologists that any negative thoughts not only have an impact on the mind, but on the body as well. If you are already overloaded and have to run on autopilot, the simple idea of that pile of laundry may be the last straw before you reach exhaustion.
Substituting Positive Thoughts
Your own reaction to all aspects of your busy days requires a positive attitude. While you always have the option of feeling helpless and plopping yourself down on the sofa, a more productive approach would be to get going and motivating yourself to get moving. You will reap in the benefits of this action’s results. By giving yourself a ‘can-do’ attitude could be the initial step to including and practicing this bit of effort so it becomes part of your daily outlook on things.
Negative thinking a primarily a learned phenomenon, but may also be a result of a predisposition to optimism or pessimism. A learned phenomenon can be unlearned by identifying your various patterns of negative and positive thinking. If you can easily relate to any of the examples below, it may just be time for you to do something about it.
Overlooking the positive: By neglecting all of those tasks or chores that you have accomplish during the day, can easily and quickly be set aside while you focus on what you haven’t managed to get to. This magnifies the laundry issue, and probably way out of proportion as well.
Blaming yourself: Technically it may be your fault that you haven’t finished your chores but berating yourself will only amplify feelings of failure and inadequacy. You’re only human and with a busy schedule failure to complete doesn’t mean you’re lazy and useless. Taking responsibility for things that are not entirely within your control will reinforce feelings of negativity.
Black, white and nothing in between: If you happen to be prone to ‘all or nothing’ answers or methods of assessing situations, you are amongst the ranks of people setting themselves up for negative thinking. Remember, perfection is rarely attainable.
Disastrous thinking: If you always expect the worst, or consider a minor setback to be a sign that the item on your list or step you have to take with be a disaster as well.
Positive thinking means stepping back and making realistic assessments. Get other people’s feedback if necessary. Remember that the most mundane task can be given a positive spin if you try. Paying household bills isn’t fun, but remind yourself of the pleasures - large and small - that you’ve derived from spending that money. Think of the kid’s faces when they put on new clothes (or just clean clothes). Instead of thinking about how boring cleaning is, remember that mess is stress and how satisfying a tidy home is. Be grateful you have a home to clean! Some don’t
The power of positive thinking will improve your efficiency, motivation and energy at the same time it endows you with peace of mind and contentment.
