Conversations to Avoid In the Workplace
If you bring political discussions into work, you may see some tension in the people you’re talking to. This is a topic which should never be brought to work. It may decrease your chances of advancement if your manager holds a different view.
Personal information such as home conflicts should be banned from the worksite. If these things are discussed other employees may wonder if you’re paying attention to your job. If you have a fight with your better half don’t discuss it at work as that allows others to see where you are weak, possibly reducing your ability to lead.
Even if you have strong convictions regarding your personal religious beliefs, the workplace is not the arena in which to share them. Other people may have equally diverse and devout beliefs, sharing with them would cause issues, so it is best to maintain your silence on this subject.
Career experts recommend not sharing your health conditions with your co-workers. People do not want to hear all of your aliments and issues you are dealing with. Health related concerns should be kept private to avoid having your employer second guess your abilities. Unless you are suffering from a condition that requires you to take time off of work or you are in need of special accommodations you should not discuss your health with your employer.
