Self Esteem - Effective Ways to Build Amazing Self Esteem

Our home and family life has a large effect on our self esteem levels. Our relationship with our partner, our relationship with siblings and other members of our family have a huge effect on self esteem as we go through our life. What we gain from a good family life helps us maintain self esteem levels as we deal with the various challenges that life brings. Having the solid foundation a good family brings gives you stability in your feelings about yourself.

Those people who have a more challenging upbringing are prone to more swings in their self esteem, because the self esteem they feel is more fragile. Low self esteem can cause behaviourial problems and rebellion against authority. These types of people often feel a deep sense of injustice at life because they feel worthless inside. Often by increasing the worth they feel of themselves either by engaging them in a hobby or activity they can do successfully causes amazing results.

To increase our self esteem we should focus on what areas of our life we are particularly successful in. For instance, if you are a respected footballer, this may be the area of life you focus on when you need to feel better or you need a quick injection of confidence. Do not fall into the trap of not valuing what you do well, simply use it regardless of what it is to feel better and increase your self esteem. Then you can try new things and hopefully find a talent you never knew existed.

In business, self esteem is often exuded in amazing quantities by individuals with drive and ambition. This level of self esteem is often not genuine because there is little these people can point to in order to justify these high levels of confidence. Confidence is not the same as self esteem, because the confidence is something that can be faked. Whilst you can cover up your levels of self esteem, deep within you there will be a knowledge of your real level of self worth.

Young people are particularly vulnerable to fluctuating self esteem. Teenage girls are often swimming in self doubt about the way they look, what people are saying about them and how much they weigh. During this intense period of development, it is often very difficult to work out whether the child has high or low self esteem, and as a steel exterior is relatively simple to exude, this makes your true self esteem very difficult to work out for parents, family and friends.

Your self esteem is not one overall assessment. You can feel good about one area of your life but bad about the other for example. An individual may be extremely confident about their chess skills but hate their interaction with the opposite sex. The important thing is that your focus stays on what you do well, and work positively to improve what you feel needs work in your life.

It is a lot more desirable to have a consistent feeling of self esteem rather than high fluctuations. Many young people have very high levels of feeling, like mania and low levels of unbearable depression. Some of lifes bad experiences like assault etc can be avoided by keeping on an even level of emotion and feeling. The development of consistent self esteem will allow you to gain a more rounded personality and keep you in control of your future development.
