The Journey Toward Better Health and Lives

Because of my frequent travel, I’ve heard concerns about and even fear for what the future holds. People are under more stress than ever to try to be “perfect” to try to increase the chances of keeping their jobs. This sometimes leads to additional stress day to day when working with other people who are struggling in the same way.

The news of course tends to give little reason to relax. Broadcasts tend to be filled with sad and scary stories. Maybe the good stories just don’t merit being called “news.” This can make the media itself pretty depressing; more so than whatever is even being reported on.

I can’t help but look at the links between all of the stress, anxiety and our health. Years of research tells me it harms us in many ways.

A large number of health problems are triggered by stress (I think most of them.) So now we’re looking at everything from headaches to high blood pressure along with economic problems. What’s a person supposed to do?

Focusing positively is something I strongly endorse. This does not mean living a life of denial regarding problems and concerns. It does mean making changes in a positive way. Something can be done about just about everything.

One very interesting study reveals that about 6 months after a major life change people are basically equally content. This holds for a person who experienced say a major car accident along with the person who came into a windfall of money.

I don’t mean this is affected by forcing a positive outlook. This is based on an average statistic. People in both scenarios maintain nearly even levels of happiness. Very often, whatever we are sure will bring us happiness, does not pan out in the end.

This is not to suggest we should not work toward making improvments to our lives. We just need to stay aware that often times its the pursuit of getting something we want (vacation, new home, more money) that is actually responsible for the joy more so than the “big prize.” Don’t forget to enjoy the ride along the way.

It’s common to get misdirected, when trying to work through an issue, with worry and additional stress. Again, it’s important to focus on creating affirmative steps to fix the problem instead.

I’ve learned that most people are very excited (in a good way) when they are actually working on solving a health problem.

Monetary problems can benefit in the same way. Simply taking positive steps tend to do more for one’s long term satisfaction than a magic pill ever could.

I am never happier than researching and pursuing new treatments that I believe will help others. The line of work I have chosen can wreak havoc at times, but continuing the work is still extremely rewarding.

We need to have fun along the way because the world is actually an amazing place.
